From an early age he showed a marked aptitude for drawing <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Disegno\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disegno<\/a> and modeling.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-145\" src=\"http:\/\/www.romanomazzini.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/artista_giovane.jpg\" alt=\"Foto dell'artista da giovane.\" width=\"145\" height=\"96\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.romanomazzini.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/artista_giovane.jpg 145w, https:\/\/www.romanomazzini.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/artista_giovane-600x397.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 145px) 100vw, 145px\" \/><br \/>\nIn 1953, he started studying art at the Institute of Faenza Gaetano Ballardini<a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Faenza\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Faenza<\/a> then he went on to study at the city \u2018Magisterium\u2019, where he graduated.<br \/>\nThe prestigious school of ceramics in Faenza allowed him to attend lectures by renowned artists such as <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ceramista\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ceramist (italian link) <\/a><a title=\"&quot;Link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.museozauli.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Carlo Zauli<\/a>, the technologist Tonito Emiliani, the <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sculpture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sculptor <\/a><a title=\"Link esterno\" href=\"http:\/\/www.treccani.it\/enciclopedia\/tag\/angelo-biancini\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Angelo Biancini<\/a> and the <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/History_of_art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">art historian <\/a><a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Giuseppe_Liverani\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Giuseppe Liverani<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Romano Mazzini was greatly influenced by Angelo Biancini who was for him not only a teacher of art, but also a teacher of life.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-146 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.romanomazzini.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/in_montagna.jpg\" alt=\"Romano Mazzini in montagna.\" width=\"144\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.romanomazzini.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/in_montagna.jpg 144w, https:\/\/www.romanomazzini.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/in_montagna-600x1125.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 144px) 100vw, 144px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another important influence for the culture of Mazzini was <a title=\"Link esterno\" href=\"http:\/\/www.treccani.it\/enciclopedia\/pietro-melandri_%28Dizionario-Biografico%29\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pietro\u00a0Melandri,<\/a> a famous painter , set designer and ceramist from Emilia Romagna, (<em>Faenza 1885 -1976<\/em>) Form Romagna, we also remember his dear friend, <strong>Raffaele\u00a0Mondini<\/strong> about whom the critic <strong>Mariano Apa<\/strong> wrote: <em>\u00abRaffaele Mondini was the laboratory and the oven where Mazzini\u2019s clay learned to recognize and model its value and its forge. Mondini, Biancini and Melandri are the cornerstones of a cultural history where Faenza could be reflected in Deruta.\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][mk_padding_divider][vc_column_text]In 1961Mazzini, strengthened by the the centuries-old art of ceramics, <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maiolica\">maiolica (italian link) <\/a>, a singular tradition of Faenza, started his own artistic path that led him to research plastic forms, using mainly <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Terracotta\">terracotta (italian link)<\/a>, <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plaster\">plaster <\/a>e <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bronze\">bronze <\/a>.<br \/>\nHe learned the secrets of the lost wax, the ancient technique for <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lost-wax_casting\">bronze casting <\/a>, used in classical times, from Bilancini. This technique disappeared to then reappear during the Renaissance. He also learned the secrets of casting to create shapes in concrete and plaster.<\/p>\n<p><strong>He took part in the International Competition of Ceramics in Faenza <\/strong>in 1962 and 1966. From 1962 to 1964, Mazzini exposed his theoretical considerations on technical ceramics and sculpture discussing with <a title=\"Link a Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Giulio_Carlo_Argan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Argan<\/a>\u00a0and <a title=\"Link a Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Filiberto_Menna\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Menna<\/a> during art seminars held in Rome.<\/p>\n<p>In October 1961, when he was only twenty-two, he moved to <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Deruta\">Deruta<\/a>, where <strong>he taught clay- modeling at the Art Institute of Ceramics,<\/strong> and later, became professor of sculpture and artistic anatomy at the Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia. <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Perugia\">Perugia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mazzini was fashineted by the environment and the history of <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Umbria\">Umbria<\/a>,\u00a0ian interest he shared with friends like <strong>Giulio Busti <\/strong>artist and curator <strong>Manlio Bacosi<\/strong>, painter, and <strong>Bruno Orfei<\/strong>,\u00a0sculptor, all of them outstanding representatives of contemporary art in Umbria.<\/p>\n<p>A longstanding, deep and lasting friendship united him to the well-known writer <a title=\"Link esterno\" href=\"http:\/\/www.marcorufini.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Marco Rufini,<\/a> who, wrote about Mazzini, highlighting his artistic and his inner, personal human side.<\/p>\n<p>Trained in Faenza, Mazzini matured as an artist in Umbria, where he devoted himself to the clay sculpture that remained a constant in his work and from which he derived his unique identity of <em>&#8220;ceramic sculptor&#8221;<\/em>. \u00a0Terracotta remained his favorite material, used to create large and monumental sculptures or small pieces sometimes colored with metallic luster.<\/p>\n<p>The use of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Concrete\">concrete <\/a>was reserved to the creation of large-scale sculptures, he creates wax-sculptures with <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paraffin_wax\">paraffin <\/a>and fusions with bronze.<\/p>\n<p>Another aspect of the artistic work of Romano Mazzini is represented by his drawings, sometimes they depict the same themes and narratives of his sculpture. He employed red-chalk pencil, <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charcoal_(art)\">charcoal <\/a>, ink china, oxides and earth colors.<\/p>\n<p>He mainly carried out its vital work as a sculptor in Deruta, , where he worked until his death on 6 March 2013, at the age of 73.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][mk_fancy_title font_family=&#8221;none&#8221;]\n<h2>His work can be divided<\/h2>\n<h2>into the following temporal<\/h2>\n<h2>and artistic phases:<\/h2>\n[\/mk_fancy_title][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]\n<ul>\n<li>Between 1959 and 1968, Romano Mazzini produced mostly abstract works like<br \/>\n<em>Abstract Sculptures <\/em>and <em>Study Machine<\/em>. . Another favorite theme was that of the flight of birds mostly made of iron or clay (produced between &#8217;58 and &#8217;64).<\/li>\n<li>Between 1965 and 1976, he created terracotta tiles with the top and bottom-relief containing figurative or abstract themes: worth remembering is the big panel with Gospel scenes on the facade of the church of the Holy Family in <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Castelraimondo\">Castelraimondo<\/a> (MC). Around this period (between &#8217;68 and &#8217;78) is the production of the series Women on horseback, made in both bronze and with the technique of refractory painted luster.<\/li>\n<li>In the second half of the <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1970s\">seventies<\/a> \u00e8 seventies he engaged in realizing important ceramic panels and large works in concrete, like the crucifix of the facade of the church of Santa Maria delle Corti in <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lisciano_Niccone\">Lisciano Niccone<\/a> (PG).<\/li>\n<li>In the <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1980s\">eighties <\/a>the Maestro was engaged in researching plastic forms in ceramic<br \/>\nsculptures, including <em>Mechanical Animals<\/em>,<em>ALonging Contrasted<\/em>, <em>The Victories of the Wind<\/em> and <em>Universoassisi<\/em>,the latter preludes to the future series of the <em>Spheres <\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>The <a title=\"Link esterno a Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1990s\">90s<\/a> swere particularly important and productive for Romano Mazzini: we recall works like layers of a <em>Metropolis<\/em>, <em>Utopia<\/em>, <em>The Orbiting System of Domes<\/em>, <em>Generating Forms<\/em>. In this decade he tackles the theme of the <em>Ideal City<\/em>; developed with the a series of <em>refractory balls<\/em> and colorful series of <em>Underground<\/em>. Later he would create large sculptural works like <em>The Cathedrals<\/em> and other smaller <em>wax sculptures<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][mk_divider style=&#8221;thin_solid&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Throughout his artistic experience he took part in exhibitions and national and international competitions. He received awards in Castelli Abruzzo (TE), Gualdo Tadino (PG), Gubbio (PG), in Grottaglie (TA), in 1988 in Monte San Savino (AR), Savona, Todi (PG) and in 1987 in Limoges and in Vallauris in France.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Many of his works are in important museums worldwide.
